Villa Arnica Hotel Review, South Tyrol, Italy

Breakfast is served in the villa’s charming, traditional wood-panelled stube and adjacent salon or, in warmer weather, by the pool house. There are homemade pastries, eggs to order, pancakes, Bircher muesli, meats, cheese and homemade jams, elevated by flourishes like a grape and plum smoothie served in glamorous champagne coup.

The pool house offers a small menu of salads and snacks using produce from the gardens from 12pm to 5pm and, once a week, there is a communal barbecue around the pool. There’s an Art Deco-style honesty bar on the first floor for guests to help themselves and tea and cakes served in the salon every afternoon.

Guests should book dinner at charming sister property, 1447 Reichhalter, which is a contemporary iteration of a 500-year-old inn a short stroll away in the centre of town with a standout restaurant serving traditional dishes like Weiner schnitzel and delicious pastas. You can also have dinner at the Hotel Schwarzsmeid’s two busy restaurants, La Fucina and Bistro Luce, set menu affairs with a buffet, homemade pastas and produce from the gardens, but be warned people eat early at the hotel, so dinner is only served until 8.30pm.
